First, we take a "skull" temple and a cable temple.
The coiled cable ends of cable temples fail before any other part of a vintage metal frame. This is especially true if they are uncovered.
We can modify cable temples to become "regular" temples. In a similar process, we can also replace the cable ends of your old temples. Here is how:
First, we take a "skull" temple and a cable temple.
We cut they cable part off the "good" temple and cut the "regular" wire part off of the "donor" temple.
After flattening the mating surfaces on a grinding wheel...
....we use a hard gold solder to join the two pieces.
After they are joined, we deburr and polish the new joint.
Last, we install a regular temple cover over the tip and adjust the temple.
A treasured vintage frame gets new temples and new life! This service takes a week or so. The cost is $18.00 per temple for conversions, and $26.00 for replacement cables.
